Updates: Resignation Epidemic, Delta Promoted, Cookie SURPLUS, More Antivax COVIDiocy, Gates Says "No Sharing!"

I haven't done an update post for some time, so here are a few items of interest.

An Epidemic of Resignations

I've recently blogged about how people are not all that excited about going back to work.  Also that people who would have normally resigned in 2020 went into a holding pattern and could be expected to resign en masse.

Well it seems to be happening. People quit their jobs at a rate of 2.7% in April.  That's an all time record.

Delta "Promoted" to Variant of Concern

Earlier this month I blogged about the Delta variant.  It's more contagious and produces more serious disease, and is causing particular problems in the UK.

Earlier this week the CDC reclassified it as a "variant of concern." That same story says that as of Sunday, it accounted for about 10.3% of cases in the US.

Yesterday I checked the GISAID database for Arizona. Here delta accounts for just 6.86% of the sequences, so less than the national average. But public health officials expect it to take over, especially in states with low vaccination rates.  Arizona is one of those.

Glut of Girl Scout Cookies

I've blogged a lot about shortages caused by the pandemic. The only situation so far where there's been a surplus is in vaccines.

Now, word comes that there is an oversupply of Girl Scout Cookies. There are 15 million unsold boxes, and another 12 million that never left the bakeries.  Probably indicates how many of these things are really sold by parents at work.

COVIDiot Drives Car into Vaccination Center

For some anti-vaxxers holding protests, or posting stuff on social media, or railing at school board meetings is not enough. No, the direness of the situation requires them to try and hurt people getting and administering vaccines.

That's what Virginia Christine Lewis Brown, 36, is alleged to have done when she drove her car through a tent housing a vaccine clinic in Tennessee. More than a dozen health department and national guard personnel inside the tent were nearly hit.

Gates Says "No Sharing!"

Some time ago I blogged about Bill Gates's efforts to derail a WHO effort to develop a cooperative, open science effort to develop vaccines. Now he says there should not be an exception to patent protections for vaccine formulas.

Clearly Gates has grown tired of his benevolent tycoon image. He must be feeling more free to let his evil hang out now that he's rid of that pesky wife.
