Roundup: Twit with Fake Card, YouTube Anti-Vaxxer Ban, Combative Patients Die

 


To be honest, I thought (and hoped) I would be running out of things to blog about by now. But damn, interesting/important news just keeps coming.  Here are three brief items for your reading enjoyment.

If You Have a Fake Vaccine Card, Don't Do This

Dumb blonde, Tik-Toker, and Anti-Vaxxer, and Biden hater @notsamantharose17 thought it would be cool to troll the libs by showing off her fake vaccine card. She proudly did so while lip-synching the song What You Gonna Do About It?

Only one problem. Her actual identifying info was plainly shown on the card she was displaying. Oops!

A user named @thatdaneshguy (whose hobby is apparently reporting online criminals) decided what he would do about it is report her to the FBI. Having a fake vaccine card is a felony.

YouTube Bans Top Anti-Vaxxers—Too Little Too Late

YouTube has banned top anti-vaxxers like Joseph Mercola and Robert Kennedy Jr. and deleted 30,000 of their videos.  Good move guys, but you should have done this like a year ago. 

But wait...they did.  So why were these people still on the platform, only to be banned now?  Looks like YouTube may be running Facebook's playbook of repeatedly announcing bans to placate critics without actually doing anything effective.

Combative Hospital Patients are Tending to Die 

You know those hospitalized COVIDiots who deny they have the disease, then become belligerent and attack health care workers? A pulmonologist in Michigan detailed eight of these cases in a Facebook post (which I'm unfortunately unable to find). He says six of them have died. 

To which I say, we're better off without people who are so stubborn and/or clueless that they say things like "too healthy. I don’t have Covid. I’m fine" (actual quote from one of the patients) as they lay there dying of the disease. That may sound harsh, but as noted in an earlier post, I've totally lost patience with these people.

Another One Bites the Dust

Hi all. Stepping out of retirement for a moment to say that the day has finally arrived. After four years of successfully avoiding COVID-19 infection I had a positive test yesterday. Symptoms are very mild—I've had worse colds. The provider at urgent care said almost all the cases they are seeing are the same. Mild symptoms may also be due to the fact that I had the original vaccine then the two boosters. All this time I thought I might be a NOVID —one of those people who never get the bug. But no, it must have been my assiduous mask wearing and avoidance of high-risk situations when things were bad. So here's double middle fingers to all the kooks who think masks don't work (I've not been wearing masks for months now). I don't know what variant I have but it's likely JN.1. AZ Pandemic Numbers Summary for the Seven Days Ending November 9: Everything is Going South

Here are the Arizona pandemic numbers and graph of statewide cases for the seven day period ending yesterday: Well this isn't good. The lull seems to be over. Virtually every number is up, both over a week and over four weeks. The most worrisome is hospital beds, which have been steadily trending up over the last several weeks.  Wastewater signals are all up except Tempe (dashboard is up again) which after going up last week (from 41 to 100) decreased by about 10%. The increases are worrisome because the latest data from ASU's Lim Lab (last updated October 31), where they sequence PCR samples to identify variants, shows that only about 46% of sequences showed BA.5. That is one of the Omicron variants the new bivalent vaccine was designed to protect against.  All the rest of the samples are BA.2.75 (7.7%), which I flagged several weeks ago, and BQ,1.1 (15.4%), and BQ.1 (30.8%), both of which I blogged about a couple weeks ago.  Those, new research confirms , are much more lik
