ADHS Director Cara Christ Stepping Down

Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) Director, Dr. Cara Christ, is stepping down from her post. She has been in charge of the department since 2015, including through the pandemic.

She has endorsed virtually every move of the governor's public illness campaign. It hunts down even the smallest effort in the State of Arizona mitigate spread of the virus and kills it via executive order.

I doubt Dr. Christ is a actually member of the conservative death cult, but her boss certainly is and she has been his enabler. One wonders how a public health official like her could stomach endorsing his policies, knowing full well how reckless they are.

Former ADHS Director Will Humble, who was at one time Christ's mentor, believes she abrogated her responsibility. I agree with what he says:

When you’re linked up with a governor who is pushing you in directions that you fundamentally disagree with, you have a responsibility to do your job, not to keep your job. You may report to the governor, but you work for the people of Arizona.

The resignation announcement came one day after Christ's department issued mask guidance at odds with the governor's position. The governor's office insists there is no link between the two events. Maybe, but it wouldn't be the first time Ducey has fired people who oppose his pandemic ideas.

In addition to saluting her boss's crazy policies, Christ's pandemic legacy includes two-times when Arizona was the worst place in the world for COVID-19, and overseeing development of a comically bad vaccine reservation system.

I will give her some credit for actual vaccine administration, which seemed well organized and worked smoothly once you got past the shitty reservation system.  OTOH as far as I know the state has done little to promote vaccines except making them available.

Christ will reportedly become chief medical officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona.  Yikes...I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona! :-/
