Latest Anti-vaxxer Asshatery

Anti-vaxxers continue to exploit their Big Chance with the pandemic and are amping-up rhetoric to dangerous levels.  Their latest move is to claim that people administering vaccinations are violating the Nuremberg Code and are therefore international war criminals. 

They are posting videos and notices like this on social media:


Their "theory" is that the SARS-CoV-2 is "experimental" and therefore prohibited under the Code.  This is such a stupid argument because the vaccine is a, y'know, vaccine, not an experiment. Numerous debunkers have gone into detail debunking this asshatery, like here, and here, and here. 

It would be funny if it weren't also dangerous. As noted in an earlier post, COVIDiots have already been harassing a nurse who they're sure died from the vaccine. But this war-crimes frame turns things up a notch or two. As a professor noted in a recent Daily Beast article:

[T]aking it to the next level and saying, "They’re war criminals in violation of international law" obviously takes that rhetoric and ups the ante. We have seen, building for years, death threats and threats of violence against physicians.

The same article reports rumors that the anti-vaxxers are planning another rally at Dodger Stadium this weekend, to prevent people who want the vaccine from getting it.  Maybe this time they'll storm the vaccination site to prevent the commission of war crimes.

Meanwhile their garbage continues to circulate in the cesspool of social media.  Facebook, after banning vaccine misinformation last March, banned it again in October, then banned it again this week. Wow I'll bet anti-vaxxers everywhere are quivering in fear of being banned from Facebook!

In a positive development they banned Robert Kennedy Jr. from Instagram, but not from Facebook. Maybe they're saving that so they can ban it next time they need to prove how much they're cracking down on vaccine disinformation.

Another One Bites the Dust

Hi all. Stepping out of retirement for a moment to say that the day has finally arrived. After four years of successfully avoiding COVID-19 infection I had a positive test yesterday. Symptoms are very mild—I've had worse colds. The provider at urgent care said almost all the cases they are seeing are the same. Mild symptoms may also be due to the fact that I had the original vaccine then the two boosters. All this time I thought I might be a NOVID —one of those people who never get the bug. But no, it must have been my assiduous mask wearing and avoidance of high-risk situations when things were bad. So here's double middle fingers to all the kooks who think masks don't work (I've not been wearing masks for months now). I don't know what variant I have but it's likely JN.1. AZ Pandemic Numbers Summary for the Seven Days Ending November 9: Everything is Going South

Here are the Arizona pandemic numbers and graph of statewide cases for the seven day period ending yesterday: Well this isn't good. The lull seems to be over. Virtually every number is up, both over a week and over four weeks. The most worrisome is hospital beds, which have been steadily trending up over the last several weeks.  Wastewater signals are all up except Tempe (dashboard is up again) which after going up last week (from 41 to 100) decreased by about 10%. The increases are worrisome because the latest data from ASU's Lim Lab (last updated October 31), where they sequence PCR samples to identify variants, shows that only about 46% of sequences showed BA.5.
