Warp Speed, My Ass

In a shocking development, Operation Warp Speed, a Trump administration plan to get coronavirus vaccine developed and administered, has proven to be mostly hype.  The effort is moving on something more like impulse power.

To be fair, the vaccine has been developed by the drug makers in record time, and that's impressive.  But at least in the case of Pfizer, which did not take the money, the program had little impact on their achievement.

A lot of effort was put into developing and shipping the vaccines.  Where the process seems to have broken down is getting shots into arms.  HHS gave thought to this, but either didn't follow through or faced state-level incompetence, or both.  Speaking of state-level incompetence, here in Arizona, we are the third-worst state for getting shots into arms and have delivered about one-sixth of what we have on hand.  In our defense, we only had ten months to prepare.

I know someone living in a memory care facility.  When the vaccine first shipped in December, they were told vaccinations would start on the 27th.  Now they are being told they will start at some unspecified time "in February." There's some precise planning for you.  Warp speed, my ass.
