AZ Pandemic Numbers Summary for the Seven Days Ending April 19: Continued Dithering


Here are the Arizona pandemic numbers and graph of statewide cases for the seven day period ending Wednesday:



Last week I was a little concerned we might be getting into something again because everything was up. But this week we're back to a mix of small increases and small decreases. 

The exception to that is deaths, which are up a lot. Most likely, though, this is due to AzDHS reporting anomalies as we have seen it before.

Once again Tempe has failed to update their wastewater dashboard. I should be able to get the missing data next time.

Hi all. Stepping out of retirement for a moment to say that the day has finally arrived. After four years of successfully avoiding COVID-19 infection I had a positive test yesterday. Symptoms are very mild—I've had worse colds. The provider at urgent care said almost all the cases they are seeing are the same. AZ Pandemic Numbers Summary for the Seven Days Ending September 7: Mixed Picture

One thing is that the four-week changes are all in the right direction and not small. The weekly stat that looks the best is the statewide case rate, which fell by more than half.  At one time I'd have gotten very excited about that. But as I have mentioned many times before, case rates are no longer considered good indicators of conditions in the community because so many people are doing at-home tests that never get reported, and federal programs for free testing have ended. I have no case rate for Maricopa County. The dashboard where they report data says "The requested URL was rejected. Please consult with your administrator."   It's hard to believe, but it was two years ago today that our moron of a former president took to a news conference to share his awesome ideas about how to combat COVID-19 infections. He suggested we inject the victims with disinfectant, and put "powerful lights" inside their bodies (somehow) to cure them. Here is a  Sarah Cooper mime  of the performance in case you've forgotten how cringe-worthy it was. His poor pandemic expert Dr. Deborah Birx stood next to him, looking on in horror.
